Hi, I’m Guillermo A. Best, a great grand son of Robert G. Best (Surrey, London, UK, 1871) and Giuseppe Palumbo (Accadia, Foggia, Italy, 1864)
Son of Roberto C. Best (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1935) and Marta B. Palumbo (Junin, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1937).

My ancestors went from Europe to America and then I came back to Europe. Who knows what else?
I hold three nationalities. My wife’s ancestors were from Asturias (Spain), so she will have the Spanish nationality too very soon.

Fortunately our children are as much international as we are.

Welcome to my Home Page!

I’m 47 years old and I’ve been working with computers and applications since I was 17, 30 years ago. This is my life …

From BASIC and COBOL business applications to Java Web Based applications using ADF, J2EE and SOA technologies for enterprise solutions

From Mainframes, Minis and PCs with TTY terminals to networked Servers though LAN, WAN and Internet

I did a degree in Systems Analysis and I’ve taken high quality training about top technologies during my career

As far I’ve worked for big companies and big projects, some times as an employee and some times as a freelance

And a little bit more… I’ve run my own business twice with very good success.

Now, I work for Oracle Iberia (Madrid) as a Sales Consultant, but I’m still working at home with exciting architectures and solutions, just for proving myself I’m current with the latest technologies.

I’ve believed in Open Systems and Unix since I had my first Sun Microsystems Sparc Station and SunOS (Solaris 1) in 1989.

I’ve believed in Grid Computing since Oracle released Real Application Clusters 10g in 2003.

I’ve believed in Virtualizacion since Vmware released ESX 2 in 2004.

Now a day I completely believe that small, low cost and powerful virtualized x86 servers, with the appropriate software, are together the most Flexible Grid Computing solution for every business need.

An Oracle Database 11g RAC can scale from 2 nodes (one CPU core each) to 100 nodes (a total of 1200 CPU cores) gradually, so you can consolidate all your data for every application in a simgle Grid

(ALL means: structured, no-structured, multimedia, spatial, maps and semantic data).

Even more, while your applications are running, you can reconfigure the grid dinamically by adding, removing and changing the amount of CPU, Memory, Network I/O and Storage

on any current node or, add, remove, change and/or upgrade nodes at any time easyly, without risks, when your business needs more power and availability.

But the real fact of Virtualization and Grid Computing is that they can work all together in order to deploy the most Flexible Grid Computing, so let me explain how to do that.

As an overview I’m going to show each one and the combination of both as follow.

Server Virtualization                                 Database Grid Computing

The Flexible Grid Computing consists of a pool of physical servers and as many Virtual Machines as the grade of flexibility your businesses need.
